Counselling and psychotherapy are umbrella terms for a range of talk therapies aimed at alleviating emotional, mental health problems and enhancing well being.
Counselling and psychotherapy can be used interchangeably and there is no universally agreed distinction between the two. However, counselling usually refers to shorter term therapy for a specific issue that is happening currently. Psychotherapy on the other hand tends to be longer term and more in-depth. It is often used to work with events from the past that are currently impacting a person's life. However, in reality it is often hard to distinguish between the two. As an integrative therapist I am trained to work according to your specific needs and wishes.
Psychotherapy can help with a range of different mental health issues, including anxiety, stress, depression, coping with illness, relationship issues, bereavement and major life transitions. This list is by no means exhaustive. If your specific issue is not listed here, and you would like to explore whether therapy might be helpful, please get in touch.
I am a person-centered humanistic and integrative psychotherapist. Person-centered and humanistic means that I take a holistic view of each person and I believe the client is the expert in their own lives. I see my role as providing a warm non-judgmental and empathetic space for clients to explore their thoughts, feelings and difficulties, with a view to recognizing limiting patterns and making changes that support a more fulfilling way of living. As an integrative psychotherapist, I am trained to draw on a variety of tools and techniques from different schools of therapy to best suit the needs of each individual.
Counselling and psychotherapy is a collaborative approach, where you are provided with a supportive environment to openly discuss and explore your thoughts, feelings and difficulties with a trained professional. As the client, you are always in charge and you decide what issues to bring to therapy.
I know that taking that first step to seek counselling and psychotherapy can be hard. You may have many conflicting feelings when you first come for therapy. I will understand that you may be nervous or anxious and will do my best to put you at ease. In the first session I will focus on getting to know you and will ask you your reasons for seeking therapy, your history and what you hope to achieve from therapy. I will also explain a little about how I work and answer any questions you may have.
The number of sessions will vary depending on your personal circumstances and the difficulties you are experiencing. The client can decide when they wish to end the process.
Sessions last for 50 minutes.
Sessions cost 60 euro.
